Everything is a remix

Here is a fantastic series by New York-based filmmaker Kirby Ferguson. The first of this four-part series gives us a really in-depth look at the chronology of the remix culture – particularly with popular music. It reminds me a lot of Lessig’s Remix book (free download here) that encourages remixing and derived work.

I will definitely be looking forward to the next three parts of this series.

Arcade Fire: The Suburbs

Arcade Fire: The Suburbs

Indie-pop stars Arcade Fire will be playing live at Madison Square Garden tonight, as a part of the release of their new album The Suburbs (BTW, the album will be released in EIGHT different and absolutely amazing album covers). Us folk from down under, living a full day ahead of them Yanks will not be forgotten! The band has kindly thought to consider streaming the gig live (directed by Terry Gilliam, no less!) on YouTube at 10PM ET/7PM PT. Awesome.

The Social Network

A full-length trailer has finally been released for The Social Network, otherwise known as that Facebook movie. How pleased was I to notice that they sneakily used a haunting version of Radiohead’s Creep as the background music for the trailer. Ha! The trailer is sending me some A Beautiful Mind vibes; particularly the scenes in the bar and of course, that one part where he’s writing on a window in white pencil (1:06).

Can’t wait till this comes out in the theatres!
